History of FTS

Frelinghuysen Elementary School opened in September, 1956 serving students in grades K-8. The original building was comprised of 6 classrooms and 1 all-purpose room. Four classrooms were added in 1966. In September, 1970, students in grades 7 and 8 began attending North Warren Regional High School when it opened. Upgrades were made to several areas including the kitchen and office in the early 1980's. The most recent addition took place in 1992, completing the building you see today as Frelinghuysen Township School.

In our main lobby, there is a bell that hung on a church in Johnsonburg, which became Johnsonburg School from January, 1917 to June, 1956. This building is now Frelinghuysen Town Hall. The bell was removed in 1956 and remained in storage until it was restored in 1993 and placed in the school lobby.
